Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus

I kept seeing this spoken word video everywhere, so of course I had to see what was up. And alright, props to this guy and his clever use of words, but I really only found one major flaw in this video. He really only spoke of the pessimism of religion, rather than the blessings it brought. Yes, religion started wars, but it has also ended them. Yes, huge churches are built, but fail to feed the poor? I beg to differ. The Catholic Church is the biggest charity in the world. It does more than feed the poor. It clothes the naked, gives shelter to the homeless, heals the sick. So I really don’t know what he’s talking about. And then the part where he says, “Religion is man searching for God, Christianity is God searching for man.” There is NOTHING wrong with searching for God. Why would anyone hate that? Christianity is God searching for man? See, here’s the thing - God doesn’t have to search what has already been found. Ever since Jesus died on that cross, we have been found, redeemed, and given new life.

Think about it like a game of hide and seek and Jesus as the person who teaches everyone how to play the game. When two persons play, of course, there’s two points of views. The view of the seeker, who doesn’t see anyone until they are found, and the view of the hidden one, who can see the seeker, but must first allow the seeker to find him or her, before he reveals himself or herself. Religion allows us to seek God until we fully see Him and He reveals Himself to us, and without Jesus, we wouldn’t know how or where to look.
